Arbor
By analyzing spatial layouts and human activity patterns around buildings and urban areas adjacent to our site, we were able to develop a design form that responds to anticipated pedestrian flows.
A covered public living room for the users of the building and the people of San Jose.
The two residential towers sit atop the retail at grade, creating a vibrant mixed-use community with residents living closer to the active street life.
By placing the workspace above the residential, the office plates are unhindered by the residential core (unlike a typical mixed-use building where the residential is typically above the office).
Through the integration of horizontal louvers and balconies at the most efficient spacing and depth, we are able to reduce the total radiation on the building mass by over 45%, reducing the overall cooling needs.
By embracing the ecology of San Jose, the rooftop becomes a space that attracts local pollinators and a place to exhibit the native flora of the region.
